Spark plugs ignite the air-fuel mixture in a gasoline engine. The correct plugs and their condition matter to how the engine starts and runs.
Symptoms to have checked
Worn or damaged plugs can contribute to rough idle, hesitation, misfires or difficult starting. Similar symptoms can also come from coils, fuel delivery or other faults, so replacing plugs without a diagnosis may not solve the problem.
Tell the shop when the symptom occurs and whether a warning light is on. If it happens only under acceleration or once the engine is warm, that detail is useful.
Use the manufacturer’s interval
Spark-plug replacement intervals vary by engine and plug type. Follow the schedule for your exact vehicle and use the specified parts.
