Calgary cold weather can make a developing vehicle problem more noticeable. Slow starting, poor visibility or fluid loss should be addressed before they leave you stranded.
Starting and visibility
Have a battery or starting concern assessed if the engine turns over slowly or struggles to start. Battery age is useful context, but testing helps decide whether replacement is needed.
Check wiper condition and washer-fluid suitability for the weather. Replace damaged or ineffective blades and clear snow and ice before using them.
Follow the vehicle’s fluid guidance
Check fluid levels using the owner’s manual and use the specified products. An unexplained drop in coolant or another fluid level needs an inspection.
Keep enough fuel for your journey and possible delays. That is a practical winter precaution, rather than a promise that a fuller tank will prevent a ‘frozen fuel tank’.
