A Winter Maintenance Check for Your Vehicle

Calgary winter driving calls for a vehicle that starts reliably, clears its windows and responds as expected. Use a maintenance check to review concerns before temperatures drop.

Starting, brakes and heating

Have slow starting checked and report brake pulling, grinding, vibration or changes in pedal feel.

Ask about the condition of the cooling system, belts and hoses. Check that the cabin heater and defroster work properly and that the coolant is suitable for your vehicle and local conditions.

Visibility, exhaust and tires

Check exterior lights and replace wiper blades that leave streaks. Use washer fluid rated for the temperatures you expect.

Have exhaust leaks assessed promptly. An exhaust leak can create a carbon monoxide risk even when you cannot smell it.

Check tire condition and pressures against the vehicle label. Arrange a winter-tire changeover before you need the tires for a trip.
