Fuel Injector Problems: Symptoms and Inspection

Fuel injectors meter fuel into the engine. When fuel delivery is not working correctly, you may notice rough running, hesitation or a change in fuel consumption.

Symptoms need a diagnosis

Those symptoms do not identify an injector fault on their own. Ignition, air intake and other engine problems can feel similar, so testing matters before cleaning or replacing parts.

A check-engine light, difficult starting or repeated misfire is a reason to arrange an inspection. Tell the shop when the symptom occurs, whether the engine is hot or cold, and whether it happens at idle or under acceleration.

Follow vehicle-specific maintenance

Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s service guidance and fuel requirements. Injector cleaning is not a universal scheduled requirement for every vehicle; the appropriate work depends on the condition found.

For a vehicle that is running poorly, request an engine-diagnostics appointment at AMR Automotive in southeast Calgary.
