Bringing a vehicle into Alberta usually involves an out-of-province inspection before Alberta licence plates can be issued. Some vehicles qualify for an exemption, so check with a registry agent before arranging an inspection.
What the inspection is for
Alberta’s inspection checks whether the vehicle meets the province’s safety and equipment standards. It must be carried out by an appropriately licensed technician at a licensed inspection facility.
An inspection is not a guarantee that a used vehicle will never need repairs. It is also different from a pre-purchase assessment of its overall condition.
Confirm the steps before booking
Follow the current Alberta government guidance and ask your registry agent about the documents and any exemption that may apply to your vehicle. If an inspection is required, obtain the inspection request form before visiting the facility.
