Coated Brake Rotors and Your Brake Service

Calgary vehicles see moisture, road salt and changing temperatures. Corrosion is one consideration when choosing replacement brake rotors, alongside the correct fit and the condition of the braking system.

What a rotor coating does

Coated rotors use a protective finish intended to help resist corrosion. That finish is separate from the brake pad’s friction material. The suitability of a rotor and pad combination depends on the vehicle and the product specifications.

Coating alone does not guarantee shorter stopping distances, less brake dust or a longer service life. Those results depend on the parts, installation, driving and overall brake condition.

Start with a brake inspection

Grinding, vibration, squealing or a change in pedal feel should be assessed before choosing parts. An inspection helps establish whether pads, rotors or other components need attention.
