  1. Dead Batteries: Cold weather can drain your battery, especially if it’s older or hasn’t been checked in a while.
  2. Frozen Fluids: Windshield washer fluid and even fuel lines can freeze in extreme cold, leaving you stranded.
  3. Tire Problems: Low temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop, increasing the risk of flats or reduced traction.
  4. Faulty Heating Systems: No one wants to drive without heat when it’s -20°C outside!
  5. Brake Issues: Snow and ice can accelerate wear on your brake system, compromising safety.

Why a Local Mechanic

AMR Automotive Reliable Service & MaintenanceOpting for a local mechanic over a chain store offers unique advantages in quality, trust, and personalized care. Local shops rely on reputation within the community, meaning customer satisfaction is their priority. Each job they complete reflects on their business, driving them to provide reliable and thorough service.

Local mechanics often work on the same cars over time, developing a familiarity that chain stores can’t match. This personal touch means they’re more likely to understand your vehicle’s unique needs and provide informed repairs. They also have more flexibility in sourcing parts, giving customers options suited to different budgets without pushing for upsells.

Ultimately, a local mechanic offers a blend of trust, expertise, and care that can’t be matched by chains, giving you peace of mind and reliable support for the long haul.

Winter Tire Change

As the temperatures drop and winter approaches, it’s time to think about swapping out those summer tires for winter ones. While you might be tempted to put off this seasonal change, having your mechanic handle the switch can save you time and ensure your vehicle is prepared for the winter months.

Winter tires are specifically designed for cold weather and icy, snowy conditions. Their rubber compound remains flexible in freezing temperatures, allowing for better traction and control on the road. In contrast, summer tires can become hard and lose their grip, increasing the risk of skidding. A professional mechanic will not only ensure your tires are mounted correctly but also check for any wear or damage, giving you peace of mind as you drive through challenging winter conditions.

Additionally, a mechanic can properly balance your winter tires, which helps reduce uneven wear and improves fuel efficiency. They’ll also inspect your vehicle’s alignment, which is essential for optimal handling. With a mechanic’s help, you can rest assured that your tires are safe and ready to face the elements. Investing in this service can make a noticeable difference in your vehicle’s performance and safety throughout the winter season.

Full Rebuild for Classic 1977 Chevy C20 Pickup Truck

AMR Automotive recently completed a full engine rebuild for a classic 1977 Chevy pickup truck, taking performance and reliability to a whole new level. The project featured the installation of an LY6 Iron Block, a powerful foundation known for its durability. To enhance the performance, a VVT delete was done, which removes the variable valve timing for a more predictable and controlled power delivery.

Key upgrades include the roller rocker trunion upgrade with hardened pushrods, ensuring the engine can handle higher stress loads while improving longevity. The engine was honed with new rings and bearings, bringing it back to peak condition. A Trick Flow camshaft (30602003) was installed, adding a significant boost in horsepower and torque without compromising low-end performance. This camshaft is a great choice for anyone looking to maximize power in their LS engine builds.

To optimize performance, the engine was custom-tuned in-shop using HP Tuners, refining fuel and timing adjustments for maximum output. A set of Spin Tech 6000 mufflers with side exits were added, giving the truck an aggressive, deep rumble. AMR Automotive’s expertise in engine rebuilds shines through in this complete overhaul, bringing new life to this classic Chevy pickup.

At AMR Automotive, we’re dedicated to preserving the legacy of classic vehicles with expert care and craftsmanship. If your classic car or truck needs attention, bring it to AMR Automotive – where passion meets precision.

Tips for Maintaining Your Vehicle in High Heat Environments

As temperatures soar during the summer months, ensuring your vehicle is well-maintained becomes crucial. High heat can put additional stress on your car, leading to potential breakdowns and costly repairs. Here are some essential tips to help you keep your vehicle running smoothly in high heat environments.

Check and Maintain Your Cooling System

Your car’s cooling system is its first line of defense against overheating. Regularly check the coolant level and top it up if necessary. Inspect the radiator and hoses for any leaks or damage. Consider flushing and replacing the coolant every two years to maintain its effectiveness.

Monitor Tire Pressure

Heat causes the air inside your tires to expand, which can lead to over-inflation. Regularly check your tire pressure and ensure it matches the manufacturer’s recommendations. Over-inflated tires can lead to blowouts, while under-inflated tires can cause poor handling and reduced fuel efficiency.

Keep an Eye on Your Battery

High temperatures can accelerate the chemical reaction inside your car battery, potentially leading to a shorter lifespan. Ensure your battery is securely mounted and the connections are clean and free of corrosion. If your battery is over three years old, consider having it tested by a professional.

Maintain Your Air Conditioning System

A properly functioning air conditioning system is essential for comfort during hot weather. Check the refrigerant level and recharge it if necessary. Ensure the condenser and cabin air filter are clean to maximize efficiency. If your AC isn’t cooling effectively, have it inspected by a professional.

Keep Your Engine Oil Fresh

High temperatures can cause engine oil to thin, reducing its ability to lubricate and protect your engine. Check your oil level regularly and change it according to your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. Consider using a high-quality synthetic oil that performs better under extreme conditions.

Monitor Your Brakes

Heat can cause brake fluid to boil, leading to brake fade or failure. Regularly check your brake fluid level and top it up if necessary. If you notice any changes in braking performance, such as a spongy pedal or longer stopping distances, have your brakes inspected immediately.

Regular maintenance is key to keeping your vehicle in top shape. Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and address any issues promptly.
A well-maintained vehicle is better equipped to handle the challenges of high heat environments.

By following these tips and trusting AMR Automotive for professional care, you can help ensure your vehicle remains reliable and safe during the hottest months of the year. Regular checks and preventative maintenance can go a long way in preventing breakdowns and keeping you cool on the road.
